Alpha lipoic acid is a compound the body makes in small amounts and uses inside cells to help turn food into energy. Unlike most antioxidants it works in both water and fat, so it reaches more parts of the cell.
Alpha lipoic acid works as an antioxidant and also helps recycle others, including vitamin C and glutathione. That second role is why it appears in OxiShield alongside NAC and grape seed.
Alpha lipoic acid is traditionally used to support how the body handles glucose, which is why it sits in SugarStopper as well. It is one of the few ingredients that earns a place in both an antioxidant and a blood sugar formula.
One serving of OxiShield (2 capsules) gives 100 mg of alpha lipoic acid. One serving of SugarStopper (2 capsules) gives the same 100 mg.
OxiShield: one capsule after each of two meals.
SugarStopper: one capsule 30 minutes before lunch and one 30 minutes before dinner.
Do not take both together without speaking to your doctor, as the alpha lipoic acid would double.
