Triglycerides are the main form of fat in your blood. Every time you eat more calories than you burn, the body packs the extra into triglycerides and stores them in fat cells. Between meals, hormones release them for energy. A little in the blood is normal. A lot, for years, is a warning.
In Hindi searches the question is usually "triglycerides kya hota hai". The simple answer: it is khoon mein fat, the fat travelling in your blood. Your lipid profile report measures it alongside cholesterol.
Triglycerides vs cholesterol: what is the difference?
People mix the two up because they sit on the same report. Cholesterol is a waxy substance the body uses to build cells and hormones. Triglycerides are fuel, made mostly from the sugar, refined carbs and alcohol you eat. Both raise heart risk when high, but for different reasons, and the fixes overlap only partly.
One more difference matters. Cholesterol numbers move slowly. Triglycerides swing fast, sometimes within weeks of changing what you eat and drink. For the cholesterol side of the report, read how to lower cholesterol naturally, with the LDL and HDL chart.
Triglycerides normal range chart
| Level | Triglycerides (mg/dL) | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | Below 150 | Healthy range, keep it here |
| Borderline high | 150 to 199 | Early warning, lifestyle change works well |
| High | 200 to 499 | Raises heart risk, doctor review plus firm changes |
| Very high | 500 and above | Risk of pancreatitis, needs medical treatment |
These are fasting values. Most Indian labs ask for 9 to 12 hours of fasting before a lipid profile, with only water allowed. A non-fasting sample can read 20 to 30 percent higher, so always check which type you gave.
Why Indians run high on triglycerides
Doctors describe a pattern called the Asian Indian phenotype: high triglycerides, low HDL (the good cholesterol) and belly fat, often at a normal-looking weight. Our diets lean heavily on rice, roti, maida, sweets and sugary chai, and many jobs keep us seated all day. Genetics adds to it. That is why triglycerides above 150 are found in roughly one in three urban Indian adults.
High triglycerides symptoms: why you feel nothing
High triglycerides cause no symptoms in the range most people are in. The number is found on a routine test, not by how you feel. Only when levels cross 500 mg/dL do signs sometimes appear:
- Small yellowish bumps on the skin, called xanthomas
- Severe upper stomach pain, which can signal pancreatitis
- A creamy, milky layer in the blood sample itself
If your report says 500 or more, see a doctor this week, not next quarter.
What causes high triglycerides?
- Sugar, sweets, sugary drinks and packaged juices
- Refined carbs: maida, white rice in large portions, biscuits, bakery items
- Alcohol, even a few drinks a week
- Belly weight and overall weight gain
- Sitting most of the day
- Diabetes, prediabetes and insulin resistance
- An underactive thyroid
- Fatty liver, which usually travels with high triglycerides
- Some medicines, such as steroids and certain blood pressure drugs
- Family history
Because sugar handling drives it, check your sugar status too with our blood sugar levels chart by age. If your ultrasound mentions fatty liver, read what grade 1 and grade 2 fatty liver mean. The three conditions share the same root.
How to reduce triglycerides: what actually works
- Cut added sugar to almost zero. This is the single fastest lever. Sugar in chai, cold drinks, sweets and packaged snacks converts directly into triglycerides.
- Shrink the refined carb portion. Half the plate as vegetables and dal, a fist of rice or two rotis, not a mound.
- Stop or strictly limit alcohol. The liver turns alcohol into triglycerides very efficiently.
- Lose 5 to 10 percent of body weight. For an 80 kg person that is 4 to 8 kg, and triglycerides typically drop 20 percent or more.
- Walk 150 minutes a week. Brisk walking after dinner is ideal, because that is when triglycerides peak.
- Eat omega-3 rich foods. Fatty fish twice a week, or flaxseed, chia and walnuts daily for vegetarians.
- Add fibre. Oats, whole dals, vegetables and fruit slow sugar absorption.
Retest after 8 to 12 weeks. Triglycerides respond quickly, so you will see the proof of your effort on paper. If levels stay above 200 despite honest effort, your doctor may discuss medicine.
Where Purezen HeartThrob fits in
Purezen HeartThrob is a 14-ingredient capsule that brings together Arjuna, CoQ10, Garlic, Guggul, Resveratrol and Green Tea. These are herbs and nutrients traditionally used to support healthy cholesterol levels, blood circulation and heart cell energy.
Purezen is FSSAI registered and the capsules use a vegetable capsule shell. HeartThrob is a support, not a substitute. It works alongside the sugar cuts, walking and weight steps above and your doctor's advice, never in place of prescribed medicine.
Frequently asked questions
What does high triglycerides mean in Hindi?
"Triglycerides high hai" means the fat in your blood is above 150 mg/dL. In simple Hindi, khoon mein charbi zyada hai. It usually points to too much sugar, refined carbs or alcohol, and too little movement.
Is a triglyceride level of 200 dangerous?
200 is in the high range. It is not an emergency, but it raises heart risk over time and often means fatty liver or rising blood sugar is developing too. Act now and retest in three months.
Can triglycerides be reduced quickly?
Yes, faster than cholesterol. Many people see a 20 to 30 percent fall within 8 to 12 weeks of cutting sugar and alcohol and walking daily.
Should I fast before a triglyceride test?
For an accurate triglyceride reading, yes. Fast for 9 to 12 hours, drink water, and avoid alcohol for 24 hours before the test.
Does a vegetarian diet cause high triglycerides?
Not by itself. A vegetarian diet heavy in rice, maida, fried snacks and sweets can push triglycerides up. A vegetarian diet built on dals, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds brings them down.
